June 5, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2022, 4:30 P.M., cathedral nave and livestreamed

Saint Mark’s Cathedral’s celebration of the Day of Pentecost continues in the afternoon with Choral Evensong. On this occasion, the Evensong Choir of skilled child, youth, and adult singers will offer the world premiere of Love is the Unfamiliar Name, a new setting of T. S. Eliot’s boldly truthful poem, “The Dove descending,” for choir and clarinet, composed by cathedral member and acclaimed Seattle music James Falzone In addition, the choir will offer, for the first time at Saint Mark’s, a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis composed in 2016 by Cecilia McDowall, one of England’s leading contemporary composers. All will sing Charles Wesley’s heartfelt prayer, O thou who camest from above, to a tune by his grandson, Samuel Sebastian Wesley (Hymn #704 in The Hymnal 1982.)
