Choral Evensong with the Welcoming and Seating of the IX Bishop of Olympia

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2024, 4:30 P.M., in the cathedral nave and livestreamed
One day after his ordination and consecration, the Ninth Bishop of Olympia will be formally welcomed into his cathedral and seated on his official chair—the cathedra from which the word “cathedral” derives—at a solemn service of Choral Evensong at Saint Mark’s Cathedral. The service begins with a dramatic knocking on the cathedral doors, after which the Dean welcomes the bishop (in the words of the authorized liturgy) “to your Cathedral Church, the symbol and center of your pastoral, liturgical, and teaching ministry in this Diocese.”
Music will be offered by the Saint Mark’s Evensong Choir and by the Compline Choir. Dean Thomason will officiate, and the new bishop will offer a sermon.
