PENTECOST

June 5, 2022

The Feast of Pentecost marks the end of our fifty-day celebration of Easter. (Pentecost literally means “fiftieth day.”) We remember the moment in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit descended onto the apostles like tongues of flame, and they were able to speak in many languages. On this special Sunday, many in the congregation wear red, and Holy Scripture will be read in multiple languages. Pentecost is also one of the baptismal feasts of the Church year, and this year there will be Baptisms at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services. The 8 a.m. service will include a Renewal of Baptismal Vows. (Note: Due to the special nature of this liturgy, the birthday and anniversary blessings during the 9 a.m. service, which would normally be offered on the first Sunday of the month, will be postponed until June 12.)
