No More Special Pleading: How Opening Up to LGBT Reality Flows Organically from Basic Christianity

THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2024, 7–8 P.M., in person in Bloedel Hall and online via Zoom

Acclaimed theologian James Alison will fill us in on a project he’s been at work on for several years, and whose book form will appear next year, to enable people to move on with regards matters LGBT in good faith. Designed to alleviate niggles of conscience that “maybe, if we were to take Jesus, or the Bible, seriously, they really would be hateful towards us,” James offers a rather rigorous and conservative understanding of what the Christian faith is all about and shows how its natural out-working opens up possibilities of reaching beyond any and all of our cultural comfort zones—of which matters LGBT are only one of many—if we want to go there. And if we don’t, it’s our choice, not something that can be blamed on some supposed higher authority…
