SUMMARY:Midway Group Joins the Cathedral Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Midway members for a kick off event of the program year by gathering as a group and taking the Cathedral Tour together. This is offered by a Cathedral docent for about an hour after the 11 a.m. service. It will be great to connect with friends old and new\, while learning more about this special place where we gather to worship. Jen Younggren and Kelly Lundquist will be there with their name tags on to greet you in the back after the service if you are looking for a friendly face. \nMidway (previously known as the 40s/50s group) offers opportunities for community and conversation with adults—singles\, couples\, parents or not—in the messy middle after young adulthood but before retirement. There is no strict age requirement—if you feel like you fit into the description of middle adulthood\, then you are welcome! \nContact Jen Younggren with questions.

SUMMARY:20s/30s Questioning Together
DESCRIPTION:Each quarter\, the 20s/30s Ministry hosts Questioning Together where the group explores a question of faith together with a facilitator providing background on the topic before open discussion. Tea and dessert will be provided. At 9:15\, there is an option to head over to Compline together. \nIn October\, the Rev. Adam Conley will lead a discussion about the role of Christianity in supporting a liberal democracy like the United States. The ongoing post-colonial critique of Christendom has been valuable and necessary. At the same time\, does Christianity still provide a “load bearing wall” in maintaining peace and civility in a civic society? If so\, who determines how Christian faith in the American public sphere is properly construed? Fr. Adam will explore these questions and more with us\, drawing inspiration from Jonathan Rauch’s recent book\, Cross Purposes: Christianity’s Broken Bargain with Democracy. \n\nPast topics have included: Geographic Location & Faith Expression\, Food & Faith\, How Much is Enough?\, What is Anglo-Catholicism?\, What Does It Mean to Practice Evangelism as Episcopalians?\, and 50 Years of Women’s Ordination. Questions? Email 20s30s@saintmarks.org.

SUMMARY:Intergenerational Godly Play
DESCRIPTION:Between services on Sunday mornings\, we create space for children to deeply experience the texts and stories of the Bible that make us Christian people and form our faith. This week\, we are inviting children and adults alike for an Intergenerational Godly Play class\, where we’ll wonder about Peter’s Journey together. \nGodly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum that recognizes that children are already in relationship with God. It invites them to wonder deeply about the core stories of scripture and imaginatively explore our liturgical traditions as it gives them practice in speaking the language of our Christian faith. \nLearn more and register your child here.

SUMMARY:Guest Preacher: Emily Meeks
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, October 25\, Emily Meeks will preach at all morning services at Saint Mark’s. \nEmily Meeks is a candidate for Holy Orders to the priesthood in the Diocese of Olympia and a senior at Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS). At VTS\, she has been grateful to explore the intersection of memory and spirituality—cognitive\, embodied\, and sacramental ways of remembering the Holy. She is especially interested in ways that congregations can support people with memory loss\, and their caretakers\, on their spiritual journey through intergenerational relationships and liturgical practices. It was on a bike commute to a new healthcare marketing job that she discovered Saint Mark’s Cathedral and The Episcopal Church\, which forever changed her spiritual journey. Emily is married to Stuart\, and together\, they enjoy connecting across cultures through travel\, hiking\, and food. Just prior to seminary\, Emily served as Saint Mark’s 20s/30s staff lead and special projects coordinator with a focus on affordable housing project management and grant writing.

SUMMARY:Intergenerational Godly Play
DESCRIPTION:Between services on Sunday mornings\, we create space for children to deeply experience the texts and stories of the Bible that make us Christian people and form our faith. This week\, we are inviting children and adults alike for an Intergenerational Godly Play class\, where we’ll hear about the Story of St. Nicholas. We’ll also stuff stockings for Donna Jean’s Place.
