SUMMARY:Cathedral Commons: Cultivating Beloved Community
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join for conversation\, connection\, and creativity at this forum presented by the Affordable Housing Committee at Saint Mark’s Cathedral. We’ll share with Saint Mark’s members\, neighbors\, and community partners the good news of “repent and repair” as we prepare to welcome new neighbors to Cathedral Place\, an affordable housing community on the property of the St. Nicholas School to the north of the cathedral. As part of this effort\, we are telling the story of how we intend to co-create beloved community through a community-based organization that will offer services and support to the residents of Cathedral Place. We’re also sharing the history of our neighborhood and our own complicity in excluding Black residents from home ownership through the Visual Storytelling Project\, a narrative art installation describing our relationship with the practice of redlining and racially restrictive covenants in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Let’s imagine together what beloved community and a flourishing neighborhood looks and feels like\, and what it might ask of us to cultivate it.

SUMMARY:When is Suffering Redemptive\, and Who Decides?
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by the Rev. Canon Emily Griffin \nMuch has been written about redemptive suffering; that is\, the possibility of suffering for the sake of justice or love leading to a greater good. Others counter that the concept is unjust and contributes to further victimization. We’ll question whether redemption is in the eye of the beholder and consider what roles grace and resurrection play in how we make meaning of our suffering. \nPart of the Wisdom School 2026-27 season \nProgram is free; optional community dinner at 6 p.m. ($8/adult; $25/family max.)  \n
