DESCRIPTION:In July\, the Second Sunday Book Group will discuss Culpability (2025) by Bruce Holsinger. In this fictional story\, a family has a collision in a self-driving car where three of the five family members are seriously injured and the two occupants in the car they collided with are killed. In the aftermath of this tragedy\, the author explores the family’s fragility and guilt\, the world of AI\, and who or what is responsible for the accident. There’s both legal and moral responsibility. Are they different? The wife and mother of the family happens to be a world-renowned AI ethicist who is writing a book on humanity’s responsibility for the morality of AI systems. Her theories have now come close to home.

We’ll focus on the first half of the book (through page 84) in our time together on June 14 and the remainder in our time together on June 21. A few hard copies are available in the parish office for a suggested $20 donation. While we highly recommend reading the book in advance\, we’ll provide enough context so that everyone can join us.

We’ll base our conversations on Denise Levertov’s Selected Poems (2002). Specific poems will be identified for participants in advance. DESCRIPTION:OPENING PLENARY: SUNDAY\, APRIL 19\, 2026\, 7 P.M.\, via Zoom\, no registration required \nWhile the deadline for registering to participate in a Radix 16 small group has passed\, all are warmly invited to join the Radix Planning Team for a plenary conversation on Sunday\, April 19 from 7-8 pm on Zoom only as we discuss the theme\, Prophetic Voices in Scripture\, and its relevance for us now. \nIn the introduction to his 2025 book\, The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage\, Franciscan priest Richard Rohr describes the biblical prophets this way: “Besides being truth tellers\, they were radical change agents\, messengers of divine revelation\, teachers of a moral alternative\, and deconstructors of every prevailing order. Being a filmmaker\, I had to make something\, and I came back with a message for my friends in the form of a 12-minute film. The trip inspired me and changed my life.” We will then have a conversation\, sharing our hopes and sorrows for the people who call this place home. Sr. Miriam Elizabeth Bledsoe\, OSH \nFrom the beginning\, we were created for belonging and community. And yet\, community also comes with many challenges\, including the temptations of individualism\, conformity\, competition and power. How do we discern and nourish the truth of who we are and who our neighbor is? How do we manage the variations of gifts\, limitations\, calls and vocations within our communities while also nurturing the persons in those communities and in the margins? The desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd and 4th centuries understood that the heart of the Christian path was communion with God and with one another. They also knew the challenges of belonging and community.
