SUMMARY:Sunday Forum: The Visual Storytelling Project
DESCRIPTION:The Visual Storytelling Project is a museum-caliber set of eight panels that tell the story of housing discrimination and Black resilience in the neighborhoods in and around Capitol Hill. As the cathedral and its partners prepare to break ground on Cathedral Place\, a new Affordable Housing Community being planned on the site of the former St. Nicholas School\, the storyboard project will educate the community on the historic practices that continue to have a measurable impact on the neighborhood\, such as restrictive covenants and racial redlining. Using archival materials\, images\, maps\, graphics\, and narrative\, the exhibit tells a story of systemic injustices and the enduring strength and creativity of Seattle’s Black community. Additionally\, the storyboard is designed to empower viewers to take measurable action for repentance and repair. The Affordable Housing Committee will hold two opening presentations\, one during the Sunday Forum hour and one after the 11 a.m. service on September 20. \nAdditional interactive components provided through Saint Mark’s Intergenerational Ministries include a fair housing dollhouse and a collaborative neighborhood design project that guide participants of all ages in considering what Beloved Community needs to flourish.

SUMMARY:Interfaith Shabbat Service & Building Together Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Saint Mark’s community is invited to join Temple DeHirsch’s Shabbat service on November 20 at 6 p.m. The Shabbat service will afford Saint Marks’ members a wonderful opportunity to join in sung prayer\, Torah reading\, and teaching with our Jewish neighbors. \nThis service is offered in collaboration with Building Together\, a Chicago-based non-profit focused on peace and reconciliation through working with Palestinian and Jewish date farmers producing honey in the West Bank. Following the service\, Rabbi Daniel Weiner and Dean Steve Thomason will join in a panel conversation with Dima\, a young Muslim-American woman from Building Together. \nTemple DeHirsch and Saint Mark’s are supporting the work of Building Together’s Date Honey Project. This initiative connects Palestinian and Israeli date farmers who collaborate to produce silan (date honey) and work together to strengthen sustainable livelihoods for their farming communities. Saint Mark’s will sell this honey at the Alternative Gift Market on Sunday\, November 22.
