Each Saturday from 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.\, local practitioners gather together in the Saint Mark’s Cathedral Skinner Auditorium (located in the St Nicholas School Building\, just north of the cathedral building\, 1501 10th Ave E.) for a community meditation\, teaching\, and coffee social. \nGatherings begin with a guided sit from 9:30–10 a.m. designed to accommodate and empower a wide variety of practices\, from Buddhist meditation to centering prayer. The morning continues with a Dhamma teaching and Q&A from 10–11 followed by a chance\, for those who want\, to discuss life and practice over coffee from 11–noon. TO 6 P.M.\, cathedral nave \n \nCome support Saint Mark’s Evensong Choir in their efforts to raise $35\,000 in scholarship funds for their Pilgrimage to England next August\, where they will serve as Choir-in-Residence for one week each at Lincoln and Durham Cathedrals. On Saturday\, November 23\, they will sing all 720 hymns between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (one verse per hymn.) \nStop by and join in singing or listen and watch for as long as you like. Get three friends and family to sponsor you for a dollar per hymn and sing 100 of them. It would take about one hour and you will have raised $300 for the choir pilgrimage! There are many ways to participate and you may learn all about them at the Hymnathon table in the back of the nave during coffee hour on Sundays November 10 and 17.

Contact quilting@saintmarks.org in advance if you plan to come that day\, to ensure someone will let you in to the building. \nThe Quilt Ministry of Saint Mark’s crafts beautiful\, one-of-a kind quilts for parishioners in times of illness or transition\, blessing quilts for staff or parish family departures\, small blankets for parish newborns\, and other occasions as requested by clergy. The ministry also does other sewing projects as needed\, such as tote bags\, ditty bags for Mission to Seafarers\, and even fabric elements of Sandy Nelson’s summer 2024 cathedral art installations. \nThe group gathers monthly on the third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 210 to work on pieces together\, plan future projects\, and to share stories and a potluck lunch in community. We have sewing machines available\, and you don’t need to be able to sew already—there is plenty of work to do that can be easily taught. All are welcome\, of any age. Optional community dinner at 6 p.m. \n \nFacilitated by: Steve Thomason\, Michael Kleinschmidt\, and Jason Anderson \nThe “O” Antiphons service at Saint Mark’s is a signature liturgy that draws us into the orbit of Advent preparation and hope\, connecting ancient themes and imagery that engages all the senses. The cadenced rhythms of chant\, prayer\, hymnody\, and prophetic scriptures are held together by carefully choreographed movements that invite us into the realm of the numinous. This year’s service—December 1\, 2024\, at 7 p.m.—will include the premiere a newly-commissioned anthem\, In the Stillness by Black composer Brittney Boykin. \nIn this Cathedral Commons forum\, Dean Thomason\, Canon Kleinschmidt\, and Dr. Anderson will explore with participants the theological underpinnings of the “O” Antiphons tradition at Saint Mark’s\, the centuries-old liturgies that it taps into\, and the origins and history of this special service. We will also discuss ways we continue to adapt and evolve the liturgical expression of “O” Antiphons\, seeking to amplify the voices of women prophets while also revising language of familiar hymns to foster sensitivity to Jewish traditions. Those present will have opportunity to sing a revised verse of “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel” and also try their hand at revisions to other verses of that quintessential Advent hymn. \nAll are welcome. (Door are locked at the beginning of class at 6:30 p.m.)\nYOGA CLASS 6:30–7:30 P.M. \nIn the sacred space of Saint Mark’s Cathedral\, this spiritual practice is designed to improve health\, release tension\, and deepen spirituality. It is a gentle\, restorative\, and contemplative practice\, and the instructors guide the group in ways that welcome newcomer and experienced practitioners alike. \n\nPay what you can.\nMats are available to borrow (first come\, first served).\nThe doors into the cathedral are opened at 6 p.m. and then locked at 6:30 p.m.\nOn the third Monday of each month the class ends with an extended savasana with Sound Bath\, 7:30–7:45 p.m. As the doors are locked at 6:30\, it is no longer possible to attend the sound bath without attending the class.
