DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH\, SEPTEMBER–JUNE (except in November 2025 and April 2026\, when it will meet on the second and third Sundays)\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the Godly Play classrooms on the 2nd floor of the St. Nicholas Bldg.  \nBetween services on Sunday mornings\, we create space for children from preschool through elementary school (age 3 up to 5th grade) to deeply experience the texts and stories of the Bible that make us Christian people and form our faith\, and also to grow in community with each other and caring adults. Using steadfastly non-digital modalities\, we tell the stories and then make space for the children to make the stories their own for life by using the materials or art to expand\, retell\, and experience the stories in their own ways. For example\, it’s magical to watch children self-organize to collectively create a “crucifixion and Easter scape” by finding and arranging materials from the room to arrange in a box of sand to exemplify all of Holy Week! We use the Godly Play curriculum. Class sessions are held generally on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month during the school year. \nLearn more and find a complete schedule and registration link here. \n\nParents and Toddlers Room\nWhenever Godly Play is being offered on Sunday morning on the second floor of the St Nicholas Bldg\, the Parents and Toddlers Room is open and available at the same time on the first floor. This is for kids under three\, and parents must remain with their children. DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY\, JANUARY 14\, 2026\, 6:45–8:15 P.M.\, in person in Bloedel Hall or online via Zoom.\n \nLetters from Prison—St. Paul\, Bonhoeffer\, and King\n \nFACILITATED BY DEAN STEVE THOMASON \nSt. Paul wrote at least four of his New Testament letters while in prison. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a prolific writer in the concentration camps of WWII\, and Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” is considered by many to make the compelling case for civil rights. Something about the crucible of confinement prompts prophetic figures to write more prolifically. There are themes that run through all three writers’ reflections\, and they offer theological riches worth mining in our own time\, in a world beset by chaos and suffering. Dean Thomason will guide an exploration of the points of convergence. No preparation is needed to participate fully\, but if you want to read some samples in advance\, read Paul’s Letter to the Philippians (esp ch. 2-4)\, any of Bonhoeffer’s writings compiled posthumously by his friend Eberhard Bethge\, excerpted here\, and/or King’s Letter. \n🔗 Zoom link for virtual participation \nProgram is free; optional community dinner at 6 p.m. ($8/adult; $25/family max.)

DESCRIPTION:EVERY MONDAY\, in the cathedral nave \nDOORS OPEN AT 6 P.M. (Door are locked at the beginning of class at 6:30 p.m.)\nYOGA CLASS 6:30–7:30 P.M. \nIn the sacred space of Saint Mark’s Cathedral\, this spiritual practice is designed to improve health\, release tension\, and deepen spirituality. It is a gentle\, restorative\, and contemplative practice\, and the instructors guide the group in ways that welcome newcomer and experienced practitioners alike. \n\nPay what you can.\nMats are available to borrow (first come\, first served).\nThe doors into the cathedral are opened at 6 p.m. and then locked at 6:30 p.m.\nOn the third Monday of each month the class ends with an extended savasana with Sound Bath\, 7:30–7:45 p.m. As the doors are locked at 6:30\, it is no longer possible to attend the sound bath without attending the class. Participants are encouraged to stay for the entire experience if possible.\nOn the fourth Monday of each month\, class is followed by social time with tea and chat.\n\nLearn more here. Questions? (following the 11:00 a.m. service)\, in Bloedel Hall.\nRSVP to queerinchrist@saintmarks.org requested. \nQueer in Christ ministry will join the Beekeeping Ministry for a Potluck in Bloedel Hall on January 11 to listen to a podcast featuring the late environmentalist and “deep ecology” scholar Joanna Macy\, followed by a discussion. This facilitated cross-ministry conversation will draw insights from the podcast to reflect on the life and death cycle of bees as a powerful framework and guide for human relationships. The discussion will highlight how working with bees is a labor of love\, full of both joy and grief as it relates to the impact of the climate crisis. Joanna’s pioneering work gives us a framework to sit with\, honor\, and ultimately transform our feelings of grief\, anger\, and overwhelm from the injustices caused by climate change into empowered\, inspired action.
