Contact quilting@saintmarks.org in advance if you plan to come that day\, to ensure someone will let you in to the building. \nThe Quilt Ministry of Saint Mark’s crafts beautiful\, one-of-a kind quilts for parishioners in times of illness or transition\, blessing quilts for staff or parish family departures\, small blankets for parish newborns\, and other occasions as requested by clergy. The ministry also does other sewing projects as needed\, such as tote bags\, ditty bags for Mission to Seafarers\, and even fabric elements of Sandy Nelson’s summer 2024 cathedral art installations. \nThe group gathers monthly on the third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 210 to work on pieces together\, plan future projects\, and to share stories and a potluck lunch in community. We have sewing machines available\, and you don’t need to be able to sew already—there is plenty of work to do that can be easily taught. All are welcome\, of any age. Optional community dinner at 6 p.m. \n \nFacilitated by: Steve Thomason\, Michael Kleinschmidt\, and Jason Anderson \nThe “O” Antiphons service at Saint Mark’s is a signature liturgy that draws us into the orbit of Advent preparation and hope\, connecting ancient themes and imagery that engages all the senses. The cadenced rhythms of chant\, prayer\, hymnody\, and prophetic scriptures are held together by carefully choreographed movements that invite us into the realm of the numinous. This year’s service—December 1\, 2024\, at 7 p.m.—will include the premiere a newly-commissioned anthem\, In the Stillness by Black composer Brittney Boykin. \nIn this Cathedral Commons forum\, Dean Thomason\, Canon Kleinschmidt\, and Dr. Anderson will explore with participants the theological underpinnings of the “O” Antiphons tradition at Saint Mark’s\, the centuries-old liturgies that it taps into\, and the origins and history of this special service. We will also discuss ways we continue to adapt and evolve the liturgical expression of “O” Antiphons\, seeking to amplify the voices of women prophets while also revising language of familiar hymns to foster sensitivity to Jewish traditions. Those present will have opportunity to sing a revised verse of “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel” and also try their hand at revisions to other verses of that quintessential Advent hymn. \nAll are welcome. DESCRIPTION:SUNDAY\, NOVEMBER 17\, 10:10–10:50 A.M.\, Bloedel Hall \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Sunday forum will include a number of reports and updates related to prayer in the style of Taizé at Saint Mark’s. Sacristan Michael Seewer will offer a brief report on his visit to the monastery of Taizé in France during his just-concluded sabbatical. (Note that his complete sabbatical report to the community will be scheduled on a future Sunday\, likely in January.) Hannah Hochkeppel will introduce some of the songs that will be sung at the upcoming Taizé liturgy on Tuesday\, November 19. Canon Wendy Barrie will offer a brief introduction of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma\, in commemoration of whom the upcoming liturgy is offered. Finally David Poortinga will make some exciting announcements regarding plans for the development and expansion of Taizé prayer at Saint Mark’s in 2025.

DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the St Nicholas Building\, 2nd floor \nNote: Godly Play will NOT meet on November 3\, due to the Baptism celebration on All Saints’ Sunday. It will meet on the second Sunday of the months\, November 10\, instead. It will them meet on November 17 as usual. \nDeveloped over the course of the last 40 years\, Godly Play is a Montessori-informed curriculum and method of exploring the sacred stories and practices of our religious tradition in a way that creates a space for “listening to God with children.” \nRegular Godly Play gatherings for kids age 3 and up are offered on the first and third Sundays of the month in the 10 a.m. hour. Saint Mark’s offers two Godly Play groups: the Weavers’ Class (age 3 to grade 2) and the Fishers’ Class (grades 3 to 5). Beautiful\, poignant and extremely human\, it’s a reprieve in a fast-moving world\, built around an acoustic backbone of live drums\, stand-up bass\, earnest vocals and intimate piano. \nThe most collaborative effort from East Forest so far\, the LP features Senegalese singer Marieme\, drummer Jens Kuross (RY X\, The Acid) and cellist/bassist Owen Hofmann-Smith. From the thoughtful and rhythmic repose of “Clay Steps” to the emotional atmospheres of “Tangled\,” the house-driven “Currents” with Brazilian techno producer ANNA\, the contemplative ballad “Birds Eye” and the raunchy-wisdom of single “So What?” with comedian Duncan Trussell\, Music For The Deck of The Titanic crafts a true journey of mood.
