They could be described as a folk duo – though their music draws from a wide array of traditions and inspirations. Soli grew up climbing trees in N.Y. state\, singing with her sisters\, making art and falling in love with early folk\, rock and the latin music of her Colombian heritage. Meanwhile\, Eliot is your classic West Coast bluegrass banjo player turned psychedelic rock guitarist and songwriter\, moving from Santa Cruz to Portland in 2013. With their distinct backgrounds\, geographical origins and styles\, it’s almost uncanny how well their voices and musical sensibilities blend. \nChamberlain / Gonzalez  released their sophomore album “Gonzolain” on 6/21/24. (Door are locked at the beginning of class at 6:30 p.m.)\nYOGA CLASS 6:30–7:30 P.M. \nIn the sacred space of Saint Mark’s Cathedral\, this spiritual practice is designed to improve health\, release tension\, and deepen spirituality. It is a gentle\, restorative\, and contemplative practice\, and the instructors guide the group in ways that welcome newcomer and experienced practitioners alike. \n\nPay what you can.\nMats are available to borrow (first come\, first served).\nThe doors into the cathedral are opened at 6 p.m. and then locked at 6:30 p.m.\nOn the third Monday of each month the class ends with an extended savasana with Sound Bath\, 7:30–7:45 p.m. As the doors are locked at 6:30\, it is no longer possible to attend the sound bath without attending the class. DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the St Nicholas Building\, 2nd floor \nNote: Godly Play will NOT meet on November 3\, due to the Baptism celebration on All Saints’ Sunday. It will meet on the second Sunday of the months\, November 10\, instead. It will them meet on November 17 as usual. \nDeveloped over the course of the last 40 years\, Godly Play is a Montessori-informed curriculum and method of exploring the sacred stories and practices of our religious tradition in a way that creates a space for “listening to God with children.” \nRegular Godly Play gatherings for kids age 3 and up are offered on the first and third Sundays of the month in the 10 a.m. hour. Saint Mark’s offers two Godly Play groups: the Weavers’ Class (age 3 to grade 2) and the Fishers’ Class (grades 3 to 5). SUMMARY:St Francis Day Celebration and Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, OCTOBER 5\, 3:30 P.M. (activities)\, 4:40 P.M. (liturgy)\, on the front lawn and labyrinth \nOn Saturday\, October 5\, Saint Mark’s will once again offer its beloved Saint Francis Day tradition. A few years ago this offering was moved from Sunday morning to Saturday afternoon\, and the outdoor celebration has a truly festive community atmosphere. The cathedral extends a special invitation to folks in the neighborhood who may not usually attend Saint Mark’s. Dogs\, cats\, bird\, bunnies\, ponies\, chickens\, and all creatures great and small are welcome. \nNew this year: Professional Pet Photographer Julie Austin will be present offering to take free photos of animal friends\, starting at 3:30! The service at 4:30 p.m. includes prayers for healing humanity’s relationship with the earth\, and for all the creatures who share the earth with us. After the service\, animals can receive an individual blessing from a priest if desired. A festive reception with treats for pets and people will conclude the afternoon. \nAll are invited to attend\, with or without their animal companions. Stuffed animals are also welcome to be blessed\, as are photographs of pets who would not find attending the event a blessed experience. Animals should remain leashed or kenneled. You are welcome to bring your own chair to use on the lawn\, although chairs will also be provided.
