SUMMARY:Joint Ministry Potluck: Beekeeping Ministry & QuiC
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAY\, January 11\, 12:30 P.M. (following the 11:00 a.m. service)\, in Bloedel Hall.\nRSVP to queerinchrist@saintmarks.org requested. \nQueer in Christ ministry will join the Beekeeping Ministry for a Potluck in Bloedel Hall on January 11 to listen to a podcast featuring the late environmentalist and “deep ecology” scholar Joanna Macy\, followed by a discussion. This facilitated cross-ministry conversation will draw insights from the podcast to reflect on the life and death cycle of bees as a powerful framework and guide for human relationships. The discussion will highlight how working with bees is a labor of love\, full of both joy and grief as it relates to the impact of the climate crisis. Joanna’s pioneering work gives us a framework to sit with\, honor\, and ultimately transform our feelings of grief\, anger\, and overwhelm from the injustices caused by climate change into empowered\, inspired action. This gathering is open anyone interested engaging with the honeybee on any level\, including holding them in prayer. \nRSVP appreciated\, please bring something to share. \n\n\nNYTimes Obituary for Joanna\nFor the Wild Conversation with Ayanna Young and Joanna\nJoanna Macy on why we need the Great Turning

SUMMARY:*Abbey Arts presents: Madison Cunnigham
DESCRIPTION:Madison Cunningham @ ST. MARK’S CATHEDRAL\nSat\, Jan 10 2026\, 7:30pm – 10pm PST\n\n\nGET TICKETS HERE\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\nMadison Cunningham: The Ace Tour madisoncunningham.com\nDepending on the game\, an Ace can be the highest or lowest card\, zero or infinity. A breakup feels similar—one path crumbles\, while all others remain infinitely possible. How do you write about heartbreak when you’re going through it? Ace\, GRAMMY award-winner Madison Cunningham’s third record for Verve Forecast\, tracks every part of it: falling out of love\, having your heart broken\, and then falling in love again. Co-produced by Cunningham and Robbie Lackritz (Feist\, Rilo Kiley\, Bahamas\, Peach Pit)\, the fourteen-track album is honest and full of heart\, even as it breaks. \nAce builds off of the success of Revealer (2022)\, a darkly funny portrait of an artist that won Cunningham her GRAMMY for “Best Folk Album\,” but it is a different record. A slow burn until it wasn’t. It follows a period of writer’s block. On Revealer and her debut album Who Are You Now (2019)\, Cunningham says that she was writing songs about heartbreak\, but they weren’t about her heartbreak. They were sketches\, observations. Cunningham wanted Ace to be emotions first. Heartbreaking and lush and bold. \nCunningham’s first single from Ace\, “My Full Name\,” was released to praise by PASTE who calls the lyrics\, “simultaneously sprawling and intimate\,” recalling “an ancient work of poetry.” On Ace\, which Cunningham serves as co-producer\, she wanted piano to move into the foreground. “I wanted it to feel like a mountain peak\,” says Cunningham\, “I wanted Ace to feel like a mountain we built together.” Ace is a record that feels alive and lush in all the ways Cunningham hoped for when she started writing. It is a record of mastery and honesty. Cunningham loves every single song on it. You can tell. \n  \n@ St Mark’s Cathedral\, Seattle\n6:30p doors\, 7:30p show\nAll ages\, mostly seated main floor & balcony\, some standing room in back \nBar w/ ID. Profits to local music & non-profits (thanks to the generosity of our local sponsors) \n  \n————————————————————————– \nCATHEDRALS CONCERTS SERIES\nPRESENTED BY ABBEY ARTS\, SEATTLE\nAn open floor concert experience\, quiet picnics welcome\, no outside alcohol allowed. SUMMARY:Wilderness Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, JANUARY 10\, 2025\, 9 A.M.–12:30 P.M.\n \nwith The Rt. Rev. Phil LaBelle\, Bishop of Olympia \nFor centuries\, Christians have been following Jesus’ lead and heading into the wilderness to find God. Wilderness experiences—both those intentionally taken in the natural world and those unplanned and taken metaphorically —strip away what’s unnecessary in our lives and give us an opportunity to pay attention to the inner workings of the soul. Belden Lane suggests that while there are times when we descend into difficult times in our lives\, it is then that we “may discover our greatest joy in having survived the night\, in finding resources we did not know we had\, falling back on a strength that was more than ours.” During this day\, we’ll discuss the realities of being in the wilderness—whether a hiking trail or a difficult season of life—and contemplate how to prepare for those times with spiritual practice\, discovering how we can cross the threshold from a time of descent to one of delight. \n📃 Watch the recording and download the slides of this offering.

SUMMARY:Contemplative Prayer
DESCRIPTION:MOST TUESDAYS\, 7–8 P.M.\, in the cathedral nave \nNOTE: Contemplative Prayer is suspended when the monthly Taizé service is offered in the nave instead. Contemplative Prayer is also occasionally suspended or relocated on other Tuesdays due to other events and conflicts in the nave.  \n \nTuesday evening Contemplative Prayer gatherings begin with a period of silent meditation\, followed by discussions on a variety of contemplative practices including Centering Prayer \nThis time of meditative prayer is open to anyone who yearns for a time to simply sit in the presence of the Divine—whether you sit regularly and miss doing it with others\, are curious\, or think you can’t do it\, come\, sit together and talk about it. There is no doing it right or wrong; there is only doing it. Read more here. \nThese sessions will be led by Phil Fox Rose\, who was introduced to centering prayer by Cynthia Bourgeault in the early 90s and has been practicing and sharing it ever since.
