SUMMARY:Special Bach Organ Concert Celebrating the Life of Carol Ramamurti
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY\, OCTOBER 3\, 7:30 P.M.\, in the cathedral nave \nEveryone is heartily invited to enjoy an hour of music by J.S. Bach (with a little bit by Handel\, too) performed by Canon Michael Kleinschmidt on the Flentrop organ\, followed by a reception with refreshments. The program will include favorites such as Jesu\, joy of man’s desiring\, Sheep may safely graze\, and the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. \nThe concert is offered in loving memory of Carol Ramamurti\, who loved Bach’s organ music and the uncommon clarity and warmth with which it sounds in the nave of Saint Mark’s Cathedral. October 3 is Carol’s birthday. This autumn also marks the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the Flentrop organ. The concert is free\, and all are welcome.

SUMMARY:Sunday Forum: Reclaiming the Book of Revelation in the Face of Current Events
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Book of Revelation in the Face of Current Events: A Critique of Empire and Christian Nationalism Run Amok\nA three-week series by Dean Thomason\nSUNDAY MORNINGS\, SEPTEMBER 14\, 21\, & 28\, 10:10–10:50 A.M.\, Bloedel Hall \nThe Book of Revelation is perhaps the most misunderstood and misappropriated book of the entire Bible. “Rapture Theology” is a thoroughly modern phenomenon that is not actually supported by the Book of Revelation\, and yet it has served as the backdrop to current events in which imperial power\, Christian Nationalism\, war in the Middle East\, and much more have taken root and hold sway in our society in alarming ways today. Join Dean Thomason as he unpacks Revelation’s unrelenting critique on Empire meant to offer a sustaining hope in the midst of strife. This book is as relevant as ever\, but we need to reclaim it and the faith in Christ to which it calls us. \nFind more information here. \nNOTE: This series of presentations will not be available via Zoom or livestreamed\, but it will be recorded. Videos\, slides\, and other resources will be posted here shortly after the event.
