SUMMARY:Organ by Night (10:10 p.m)
DESCRIPTION:THIRD SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH\, 10:10 P.M. (immediately following Compline)\, in the cathedral nave and in the organ loft \n \nJohn Stuntebeck will offer this month’s Organ by Night music following Compline this Sunday\, September 21. He presently serves as Associate Organist at Saint Mark’s Cathedral. He will play space-themed works by Ludovico Einaudi\, Michael Giaccino\, Ludwig Göransson\, and John Williams. \n\nThe tradition of informal mini-concerts on the Flentrop following Compline have introduced generations of Seattleites to the power and beauty of a real pipe organ. All are welcome to listen in the nave\, or join the organist in the loft to see what playing an instrument of this size is really like. (The radio program The Organ Loft\, which airs on KING-FM immediately following Compline each week\, was inspired by this tradition.) A Q&A in the loft usually follows the performance. \nFind a list of past and upcoming recitalists here. \nThe new iteration of this offering\, called Organ by Night\, will be offered once a month\, on the third Sunday of each month.

SUMMARY:Sunday Forum: Reclaiming the Book of Revelation in the Face of Current Events
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Book of Revelation in the Face of Current Events: A Critique of Empire and Christian Nationalism Run Amok\nA three-week series by Dean Thomason\nSUNDAY MORNINGS\, SEPTEMBER 14\, 21\, & 28\, 10:10–10:50 A.M.\, Bloedel Hall \nThe Book of Revelation is perhaps the most misunderstood and misappropriated book of the entire Bible. “Rapture Theology” is a thoroughly modern phenomenon that is not actually supported by the Book of Revelation\, and yet it has served as the backdrop to current events in which imperial power\, Christian Nationalism\, war in the Middle East\, and much more have taken root and hold sway in our society in alarming ways today. Join Dean Thomason as he unpacks Revelation’s unrelenting critique on Empire meant to offer a sustaining hope in the midst of strife. This book is as relevant as ever\, but we need to reclaim it and the faith in Christ to which it calls us. \nFind more information here. \nNOTE: This series of presentations will not be available via Zoom or livestreamed\, but it will be recorded. Videos\, slides\, and other resources will be posted here shortly after the event.

SUMMARY:Godly Play
DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH\, SEPTEMBER–JUNE (except in November 2025 and April 2026\, when it will meet on the second and third Sundays)\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the Godly Play classrooms on the 2nd floor of the St. Nicholas Bldg.  \nBetween services on Sunday mornings\, we create space for children from preschool through elementary school (age 3 up to 5th grade) to deeply experience the texts and stories of the Bible that make us Christian people and form our faith\, and also to grow in community with each other and caring adults. Using steadfastly non-digital modalities\, we tell the stories and then make space for the children to make the stories their own for life by using the materials or art to expand\, retell\, and experience the stories in their own ways. For example\, it’s magical to watch children self-organize to collectively create a “crucifixion and Easter scape” by finding and arranging materials from the room to arrange in a box of sand to exemplify all of Holy Week! We use the Godly Play curriculum. Class sessions are held generally on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month during the school year. \nLearn more and find a complete schedule and registration link here. \n\nParents and Toddlers Room\nWhenever Godly Play is being offered on Sunday morning on the second floor of the St Nicholas Bldg\, the Parents and Toddlers Room is open and available at the same time on the first floor. This is for kids under three\, and parents must remain with their children. A room host (with Safe Church training) is on hand to welcome you and your little one\, along with age appropriate toys and books\, a carpet for crawlers\, and a table and chairs. Please contact Canon Barrie for more information or to help support this ministry: wbarrie@saintmarks.org
