SUMMARY:Ministry Fair 2025!
DESCRIPTION:The Saint Mark’s Ministry Fair is Moving to the Spring!\nFor many years\, the Ministry Fair—when all the many ministry groups of the cathedral celebrate their activities and accomplishments and invite new members to get involved—has been in the fall\, on “Homecoming Sunday” after Labor Day\, just as the new program year is starting. Last year\, Homecoming Sunday also featured an All-Parish Picnic\, which included a back-to-school Blessing of Backpacks and Briefcases. The picnic was a joyous community occasion\, and many felt it was an ideal way to mark the end of summer\, look forward to the new beginnings of the Fall season\, and celebrate this Spirit-filled community. \nTo allow everyone to fully participate in the Homecoming Sunday Picnic\, this year the Ministry Fair will be moving to Sunday\, May 4\, following the 9 and 11 a.m. services. This new date in Eastertide has several advantages. It is also the day after Cathedral Day (Saturday\, May 3)\, so cathedral ministries who would like to have a presence at our great diocesan celebration can re-use their table display and promotional materials at the Ministry Fair the following day. More details will be announced as the date approaches.

\nTo allow everyone to fully participate in the Homecoming Sunday Picnic\, this year the Ministry Fair will be moving to Sunday\, May 4\, following the 9 and 11 a.m. services in the cathedral nave.

SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH\, OCTOBER–JUNE\, 4:30 P.M.\, in person in the cathedral nave\, and livestreamed \nSUNDAY\, MAY 4\, 2025:\nSaint Mark’s Cathedral invites one and all to meditate on the joys of Eastertide. Come\, hear the arresting humility and sincerity expressed in the final sentences of John’s Gospel\, the preceding verses of which will be read in the morning eucharists. Hear also a meditation on those verses by the poet\, Christina Rossetti\, sung by the Evensong Choir in a haunting setting by the currently active American composer\, Anthony Piccolo. The choir will also offer a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis composed for the choir of St. Anne’s Cathedral\, Belfast\, Ireland\, by the currently active English composer\, Philip Stopford. The whole assembly will join in singing the irrepressibly uplifting carol\, “This joyful Eastertide.” \n\n\n\n\nThe ancient practice of singing evening prayers is a longstanding practice in many Christian traditions. In English cathedrals\, this practice developed\, through the centuries\, into a special sung service\, and today Choral Evensong is a treasure among Christian liturgies and a jewel of the Anglican choral tradition. \nThe Saint Mark’s Evensong Choir\, an intergenerational choir of children\, teenagers\, and adults\, offers this beautiful service once a month. All are welcome. \n\n\n\nLearn more at: saintmarks.org/evensong \n\nEvensong Services\, 2024–25\nSEPTEMBER 1\, 2024 – Service of Gratitude for the Ministry of Bishop Provisional Melissa Skelton \nSEPTEMBER 15\, 2024 – The Welcome & Seating of the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Olympia \nOCTOBER 6\, 2024 – Celebrating Francis and Clare of Assisi \nNOVEMBER 3\, 2024 – The Feast of All Saints (transferred) \n[On December 1\, 2024\, Evensong is replaced by the annual “O” Antiphons Advent liturgy]\nJANUARY 5\, 2025 – The Eve of the Feast of the Epiphany \nFEBRUARY 2\, 2025 – The Presentation of Christ in the Temple (Candelmas) \nMARCH 2\, 2025 – The Last Sunday after the Epiphany \nAPRIL 6\, 2025 – The Fifth Sunday in Lent \nMAY 4\, 2025 – The Third Sunday of Easter \nJUNE 1\, 2025 – The Feast of the Visitation (transferred)
