SUMMARY:*Abbey Arts presents: Yaima\, with Rafe Pearlman
DESCRIPTION:CATHEDRALS: Yaima\, Rafe Pearlman @ ST. MARK’S CATHEDRAL \nFri 1st Nov 2024\, 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm PDT \n1245 10th Ave E\, Seattle\, WA 98102\, USA \n$30 – $60 USD + BF \nEvent description\n\nImagine & Abbey Arts Present\nCATHEDRALS:\nYaima\, Rafe Pearlman\n\nYaima: https://www.yaimamusic.com/\nThe Yaima Music Project is a Cascadian Folktronic Duo based in Seattle WA (2014-Present) \nFeaturing Multi-Instrumentalist & Producer Masaru Higasa and Vocalist Pepper Proud has often been described as timeless and unmistakable\, offering a balanced synergy of both the masculine and feminine expression. \nTheir melodious soundscapes showcase instruments from all over the world. Inspired by the Majesty of Nature their musings encompass the listener with driving and revitalizing organic rhythms\, transcendent electronic production\, warm soothing female vocals and heartened lyricism. \nTheir intention is to create a bridge between Nature and Humankind\, an expansive experience that encourages growth and graceful passage for the hearts and minds of their listeners. \nThe name YAIMA emerges from two sources one from the Mapudungun language meaning “that which water runs through” and the other from the culturally preserved Yaeyama District of Okinawa Japan- Over the last 5 years YAIMAs music has been reaching the ears and hearts of listeners from all around the world. \nRafe Pearlman: https://rafepearlman.com/\nRafe Pearlman started his singing career with the wolves\, ravens and sled dogs of the Alaskan wilderness. The wild nature of his exploratory singing has led to performances spanning the globe\, from India\, Hong Kong\, Israel and Germany\, to Italy\, France\, Spain\, Australia\, Thailand\, Mexico and all across the United States. Rafe’s intention with his music is to inspire a vision of a world in harmony and unity\, celebrating diversity\, sustainability\, and equality for all beings. Sometimes a simple song is all it takes to open a connection. \n  \n@ St Mark’s Cathedral\, Seattle\n6:30p doors\, 7:30p show\nAll ages\, some seating available \nBar w/ ID. Profits to local music & non-profits (thanks to the generosity of our local sponsors) \n  \n————————————————————————– \nCATHEDRALS CONCERTS SERIES\nPRESENTED BY ABBEY ARTS\, SEATTLE\nAn open floor concert experience\, quiet picnics welcome\, no outside alcohol allowed. Seating available including chairs\, benches\, and some floor space around the stage area. \nWe recommend bringing cushions and even blankets if you’d like. Audience can sit or lay down anywhere around the stage as space allows (floor space is not reserved). \n————————————————————————– \nImagine Gathering Productions: https://imaginegathering.com/\n————————————————————————– \nEVENT & VENUE INFO:\n\nSt Mark’s is ADA Accessible. Wheelchair seating area is to the left of stage near the front.(Email boxoffice@fremontabbey.org with questions)\nService animals as defined by the ADA are allowed. Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.\nWe are an all ages venue. Kids 10 & under are free at most Abbey Arts events.\nSt. Mark’s has a pay-to-park lot. More parking information is available here.\n\nSEATING:\n\nOpen seating except reserved front rows chairs & benches.\nTo create a “giant living room” effect we offer an unusual concert experience with informal seating on the floor up front surrounding the stage and lots of pews\, benches\, and chairs around the space.\nWe highly recommend you bring blankets and cushions to create a more comfortable experience whether sitting on the floor or seats. Quiet and non-messy snacks/picnics are allowed. No outside alcohol please.\nFor best sound\, arrive early for center floor area and any area on stage not marked with signage. You can also sit all around the back of the stage if you like but sound will be a bit limited there.\n\nQUIET POLICY:\n\nPlease refrain from talking or texting during the show\nPlease silence all devices. Turn off vibrate\, rings\, etc. If you need your phone on vibrate for specific reasons\, please keep it close to you and not on a hard surface that will distract your neighbor.\nIf arriving late\, please be advised that ushers may hold doors during each song due to acoustics of the space.\nPlease refrain from talking during the show.\nPlease enter quietly if the show has already begun.\n\n\nNO CAMERAS WITH MECHANICAL SHUTTERS (This goes for Press too unless approved to photograph during applause only.) That means silent digital cameras/photos are ok but we really recommend you enjoy most of the show through your own ‘retina screens’.\nYou probably get the idea\, this isn’t a loud party venue. 🙂\nAnyone exhibiting loud or disruptive behavior during the event will be asked to leave.\n\n\n**We are unable to provide a separate soundproof room for viewing this event. These shows are very very pin drop quiet so please consider that when deciding what ages are appropriate. No cry room available at this venue and even voices in the lobby will be heard in the concert space.\n\nSOCIALS:\n\nUse #seattlecathedrals and tag @abbeyarts on Instagram or Facebook\, @fremontabbey on Twitter

SUMMARY:Cathedral Commons—Forum on Shaker Music
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY\, NOVEMBER 6\, 2024\, 6:45–8:15 P.M.\, in person in Bloedel Hall or online via Zoom \nBuilding Radical Shaker Community Through Song\n“For what came we together to do but to sing the love of Mother to you?”\n\n \nLed by Dr. Carol Medlicott\, Scholar of the Shakers \nLike many forms of Christian faith\, Shakerism holds several simple spiritual truths at the forefront\, while it also draws richness and strength from deeper theological nuance. The Shakers’ vast song tradition helps to elaborate their complex theology. At the same time\, the song tradition reinforces the Shakers’ communal identity and their novel conception of social order. Join Dr. Carol Medlicott\, who has been studying Shakers and Shaker music for over twenty years\, to explore how these socially radical separatists that worshipped through dance have used song to create and sustain community for 250 years.
