SUMMARY:Godly Play
DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the St Nicholas Building\, 2nd floor \nOn May 4\, there will be an open house of the classrooms instead of a usual lesson. \nOn May 18\, Godly Play participants are encourages to go to Bloedel Hall\, where Canon Griffin will be offering a Godly Play lesson for the whole congregation. \nGodly Play meets as usual on the first and third Sundays June\, June 1 and 15\, and then takes a summer hiatus until September. \nDeveloped over the course of the last 40 years\, Godly Play is a Montessori-informed curriculum and method of exploring the sacred stories and practices of our religious tradition in a way that creates a space for “listening to God with children.” \nRegular Godly Play gatherings for kids age 3 and up are offered on the first and third Sundays of the month in the 10 a.m. hour. Saint Mark’s offers two Godly Play groups: the Weavers’ Class (age 3 to grade 2) and the Fishers’ Class (grades 3 to 5). SUMMARY:20s/30s Book Group: Braiding Sweetgrass
DESCRIPTION:SUNDAY\, JANUARY 5 AND FIRST SUNDAYS IN JANUARY–APRIL\, 12:30–1:30 P.M.\, all meetings are at Leffler House 2nd Floor meeting room\, except for February 2\, which is in St. Nicholas Building \nGather to read and learn from Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book\, “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom\, Scientific Knowledge\, and the Teaching of Plants.” We will meet once per month from January – April to discuss select chapters of this collection of essays. This book group is hosted by the 20s & 30s group\, but all are welcome to join. “As a botanist\, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation\, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass\, Kimmerer brings these two lenses of knowledge together to take us on ‘a journey that is every bit as mythic as it is scientific\, as sacred as it is historical\, as clever as it is wise.’” (Elizabeth Gilbert). Contact Julia at julia7cooper@gmail.com to RSVP. Even if you cannot make every meeting\, you are welcome to join! Stay tuned for a schedule of chapters which we will focus on for each meeting.
