DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to a fun and festive Parish Picnic! A bluegrass band will play\, hamburgers and hot dogs (and veggie alternatives) will be grilled\, and a very good time will be had by all! This annual event for the entire cathedral community is a joyful and lively way to reconnect with one another after the adventures of summer. \nChildren’s Chapel will be held at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services to make it easy for families to be present. \nBring your backpacks and briefcases to the labyrinth 15 minutes after the 11 a.m. service concludes to receive God’s blessing (and a finger labyrinth!) for the new school year/program year ahead. \nThere is no charge for the picnic\, which in addition to the grilled food will include fruit\, sides\, beverages\, and dessert. Please register for the picnic so we know how much food to prepare.

SUMMARY:St Francis Day Celebration and Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, OCTOBER 4\, 4:30 P.M.\, on the front lawn and labyrinth \nOn Saturday\, October 4\, Saint Mark’s will once again offer its beloved Saint Francis Day tradition. This Saturday afternoon outdoor offering has a truly festive community atmosphere. The cathedral extends a special invitation to folks in the neighborhood who may not usually attend Saint Mark’s. Dogs\, cats\, birds\, bunnies\, ponies\, chickens\, and all creatures great and small are welcome. \nThe service at 4:30 p.m. includes prayers for healing humanity’s relationship with the earth\, and for all the creatures who share the earth with us. Music will be offered by the young choristers of the Choir School. After the service\, animals can receive an individual blessing from a priest if desired. A festive reception with treats for pets and people will conclude the afternoon. \nAll are invited to attend\, with or without their animal companions. Stuffed animals are also welcome to be blessed\, as are photographs of pets who would not find attending the event a blessed experience. Animals should remain leashed or kenneled. You are welcome to bring your own chair to use on the lawn\, although chairs will also be provided.

DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, OCTOBER 4\, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. \nThe Olmsted Brothers’ visionary park plan led Seattle’s prominent leaders and their renowned architects to design homes nestled against blossoming Volunteer Park on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The homes reflect the changing tastes\, lifestyles\, and times just before and after World War I. Stroll Federal Avenue and learn about these stately monuments to early 20th Century prosperity. On this tour you’ll see a variety of classic architectural styles from notable architects of the day\, including Carl F. Gould\, Bebb & Mendel\, & Joseph S. Coté and Andrew Willatsen. \nThe tour usually concludes with a brief presentation of Saint Mark’s Cathedral\, when possible. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTours are approximately two hours in length\, unless otherwise noted. Advance registration is strongly encouraged; walk-ups are limited to space available. Private tours are also available: email info@seattlearchitecture.org for more information. SUMMARY:Consecration of the Cathedral Memorial Garden & All Saints' Pedestrian Pathway
DESCRIPTION:CONSECRATION: SUNDAY\, AUGUST 24\, 10:15 A.M.\, on the front lawn \nAt its meeting on July 22\, 2025\, the Vestry of Saint Mark’s Cathedral Parish set apart a portion of the cathedral’s south churchyard to become the Cathedral Memorial Garden. This long-awaited development now provides a way for ashes to be placed directly into the ground and for that ground to be consecrated for this purpose in perpetuity. \nThe Memorial Garden is centered on the beautiful Deodara Cedar near the picnic table and All Saints’ Pedestrian Pathway. That cedar tree was planted 75 years ago in memory of Bishop Arthur Huston and serves as a fitting cornerstone for the ashes of our beloved ones to be interred there. Two memorial benches\, similar to those around the labyrinth\, will be placed on the south lawn adjacent to the Memorial Garden and orienting to it. \nThe Vestry adopted a Policy for Burial in the Memorial Garden\, and there is also a procedure for transferring ashes from the Chapel of the Resurrection to the Memorial Garden\, should families desire that. The Vestry also approved the creation of a separate small garden area for the placement of ashes of animal companions. To learn more\, speak with Dean Thomason or one of the cathedral clergy. \nA brief rite consecrating the Memorial Garden and the All Saints’ Pedestrian Pathway will occur Sunday\, August 24\, at 10:15 a.m.\, with light refreshments to follow. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, MAY 3\, 10:30 A.M.–2 P.M.\, advance registration requested \nCathedral Day is a “family reunion” for Episcopalians from across western Washington—a time for connecting across communities\, experiencing your cathedral in a new light… and having a lot of fun. There’s something for everyone—no matter your age! \nA liturgy of Holy Eucharist with the rites of Confirmation\, Reception\, and Reaffirmation for candidates from parishes near and far will begin at 10:30 a.m.\, opening with a grand\, colorful procession of parish banners. \nFollowing the service\, all are invited to enjoy lunch from food trucks and participate in activities for all ages. (Food truck lunch is free with advance registration.) Afternoon activities include face painting\, demonstration of the Mighty Flentrop\, paper airplane launch from the organ loft\, docent-led tour including the crypt\, a walk through the Greenbelt\, and more! \n\n\n\n\nSCHEDULE OF THE DAY \n\n8:30 a.m.: Check-in opens for participants in the liturgy\n9:15 a.m.: Confirmation/Reception/Reaffirmation Rehearsal – Confirmands\, Sponsors\, Clergy\, Church Representatives gather in the nave for rehearsal\, meet with Bishop Phil LaBelle.\n10:10 a.m.: Assemble for Procession – Candidates\, sponsors\, clergy\, and banner holders line up and prepare to process into Saint Mark’s. All congregations attending Cathedral Day are invited to bring their banners and be a part of this procession.\n10:30 a.m.: Confirmation Liturgy – A liturgy of Holy Eucharist with the rites of confirmation\, reception\, and reaffirmation for candidates from parishes near and far will open with a grand\, colorful procession of parish banners.\nFollowing the service: Lunch – Food trucks will be at-the-ready outside the cathedral. Register your whole family here for a free lunch at your choice of three eateries.\n12:30–2 p.m.: Activities for All Ages – Take a liturgical hike through the Greenbelt\, join docent-led tour of the cathedral and crypt; hear a demonstration of the mighty Flentrop organ; launch recycled paper airplanes from the organ loft; walk the labyrinth; and bring seeds from our seed library back to your home or church!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more here. \n\n\n\nNOTE: Candidates for Confirmation/Reception/Reaffirmation should arrive by 9:15 a.m. for a required meeting with Bishop LaBelle.\nThe grand procession including candidates and parish banner-bearers forms outside at 10:10 a.m.
