DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, MAY 3\, 10:30 A.M.–2 P.M.\, advance registration requested \nCathedral Day is a “family reunion” for Episcopalians from across western Washington—a time for connecting across communities\, experiencing your cathedral in a new light… and having a lot of fun. There’s something for everyone—no matter your age! \nA liturgy of Holy Eucharist with the rites of Confirmation\, Reception\, and Reaffirmation for candidates from parishes near and far will begin at 10:30 a.m.\, opening with a grand\, colorful procession of parish banners. \nFollowing the service\, all are invited to enjoy lunch from food trucks and participate in activities for all ages. (Food truck lunch is free with advance registration.) Afternoon activities include face painting\, demonstration of the Mighty Flentrop\, paper airplane launch from the organ loft\, docent-led tour including the crypt\, a walk through the Greenbelt\, and more! \n\n\n\n\nSCHEDULE OF THE DAY \n\n8:30 a.m.: Check-in opens for participants in the liturgy\n9:15 a.m.: Confirmation/Reception/Reaffirmation Rehearsal – Confirmands\, Sponsors\, Clergy\, Church Representatives gather in the nave for rehearsal\, meet with Bishop Phil LaBelle.\n10:10 a.m.: Assemble for Procession – Candidates\, sponsors\, clergy\, and banner holders line up and prepare to process into Saint Mark’s. All congregations attending Cathedral Day are invited to bring their banners and be a part of this procession.\n10:30 a.m.: Confirmation Liturgy – A liturgy of Holy Eucharist with the rites of confirmation\, reception\, and reaffirmation for candidates from parishes near and far will open with a grand\, colorful procession of parish banners.\nFollowing the service: Lunch – Food trucks will be at-the-ready outside the cathedral. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, OCTOBER 4\, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. \nThe Olmsted Brothers’ visionary park plan led Seattle’s prominent leaders and their renowned architects to design homes nestled against blossoming Volunteer Park on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The homes reflect the changing tastes\, lifestyles\, and times just before and after World War I. Stroll Federal Avenue and learn about these stately monuments to early 20th Century prosperity. On this tour you’ll see a variety of classic architectural styles from notable architects of the day\, including Carl F. Gould\, Bebb & Mendel\, & Joseph S. Coté and Andrew Willatsen. \nThe tour usually concludes with a brief presentation of Saint Mark’s Cathedral\, when possible. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTours are approximately two hours in length\, unless otherwise noted. Advance registration is strongly encouraged; walk-ups are limited to space available. Private tours are also available: email info@seattlearchitecture.org for more information. Tours are $25 in advance/$20 for members/$22 for students and seniors over 65/Free for children under 5. Ticket sales close at 9 p.m. the evening before the tour. (liturgy)\, on the front lawn and labyrinth \nOn Saturday\, October 5\, Saint Mark’s will once again offer its beloved Saint Francis Day tradition. A few years ago this offering was moved from Sunday morning to Saturday afternoon\, and the outdoor celebration has a truly festive community atmosphere. The cathedral extends a special invitation to folks in the neighborhood who may not usually attend Saint Mark’s. Dogs\, cats\, bird\, bunnies\, ponies\, chickens\, and all creatures great and small are welcome. \nNew this year: Professional Pet Photographer Julie Austin will be present offering to take free photos of animal friends\, starting at 3:30! The service at 4:30 p.m. includes prayers for healing humanity’s relationship with the earth\, and for all the creatures who share the earth with us. After the service\, animals can receive an individual blessing from a priest if desired. A festive reception with treats for pets and people will conclude the afternoon. \nAll are invited to attend\, with or without their animal companions. Stuffed animals are also welcome to be blessed\, as are photographs of pets who would not find attending the event a blessed experience. Animals should remain leashed or kenneled. You are welcome to bring your own chair to use on the lawn\, although chairs will also be provided.
