DESCRIPTION:Between services on Sunday mornings\, we create space for children to deeply experience the texts and stories of the Bible that make us Christian people and form our faith. Classes are open to children in preschool through fifth grade and offer children the opportunity to grow in community with each other and caring adults. \nOn September 20\, the younger class will hear about the Holy Bible while the older class will learn about the Books of the Bible. \nGodly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum that recognizes that children are already in relationship with God. For example\, it’s magical to watch children self-organize to collectively create a “crucifixion and Easter scape” by finding and arranging materials from the room to arrange in a box of sand to exemplify all of Holy Week! We use the Godly Play curriculum. DESCRIPTION:SUNDAY\, SEPTEMBER 7\, 10 A.M.\, St. Nicholas Bldg\, 2nd floor classrooms \nOn Sunday\, September 7 following the 9 am service\, we welcome families with children in preschool through fifth grade to Godly Play Orientation! This is a great opportunity for children to reconnect with each other after the summer\, decorate a name tag\, meet teachers new and returning\, and spend some time in our beautiful and newly refreshed classrooms. Parents can register their children and hear a Godly Play story with them. \nPlease Note: on this day\, one parent must remain with their child. Because this is the same day as the Parish Picnic\, Children’s Chapel will be offered during the adult sermon at both 9 am and 11 am services. Families who attend the 9 am service are encouraged to meet up at the Volunteer Park playground during the 11 am service\, and return at noon for the picnic and the Blessing of Backpacks and Briefcases. \nGodly Play is (usually) held on the first and third Sundays of the month following the 9 am service from September through June\, except in November 2025 and April 2026 when it will meet on the second and third Sundays. DESCRIPTION:FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS OF THE MONTH\, 10–11 A.M.\, in the St Nicholas Building\, 2nd floor \nOn May 4\, there will be an open house of the classrooms instead of a usual lesson. \nOn May 18\, Godly Play participants are encourages to go to Bloedel Hall\, where Canon Griffin will be offering a Godly Play lesson for the whole congregation. \nGodly Play meets as usual on the first and third Sundays June\, June 1 and 15\, and then takes a summer hiatus until September. \nDeveloped over the course of the last 40 years\, Godly Play is a Montessori-informed curriculum and method of exploring the sacred stories and practices of our religious tradition in a way that creates a space for “listening to God with children.” \nRegular Godly Play gatherings for kids age 3 and up are offered on the first and third Sundays of the month in the 10 a.m. hour. Saint Mark’s offers two Godly Play groups: the Weavers’ Class (age 3 to grade 2) and the Fishers’ Class (grades 3 to 5). They will resume in September. \n \n\n\nCome share a meal with us and practice sacred stillness with the wider cathedral community. \nJoin in for a taco dinner at 6 p.m. in Leffler House—tortillas\, beans and chips and salsa provided\, just bring a favorite side—and conversation to start the week. After dinner\, the group will head over to the cathedral nave to take part in Contemplative Prayer from 7–8 p.m. No prior experience with Contemplative Prayer or meditation is required.
