Radix Opening Plenary: Health, Healing, and Shalom

April 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

OPENING PLENARY: SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 7–8 P.M., via Zoom. Open to all; no registration required.

Parishioner and emergency medicine physician Dr. Jen Younggren will offer the theological reflection at this Zoom-only presentation.

SMALL GROUPS MEET: ONCE A WEEK FOR SIX WEEKS, STARTING THE WEEK OF APRIL 29, in person OR online via Zoom, registration required. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: MONDAY, APRIL 21, 5 P.M.

Dean Thomason, explaining the topic of this series of Radix gatherings, writes, “The conflation of “health” with the narrower concept of “medicine” as the dominant model in western industrialized nations is a thoroughly modern phenomenon. The vast majority of human history has functioned with a different model, and although the scientific contributions of modern medicine cannot and should not be forsaken, there is a role for the church in the societal discourse about how health might be redefined in broader terms—physical, mental, spiritual, economic, and political—for the individual, family, community, society, nation, and world. From this perspective, we have a great deal to learn from Biblical stories of healing—it is the idea and ideal of shalom.”

Started in January of 2020, The Radix Project was created at Saint Mark’s as an opportunity for individuals to gather in small groups, share their stories, reflect on Holy Scripture and sacred art, and pray for one another with intention. This popular program has been offered 13 times over the last five years. Register using this form before Monday, April 21, 5 p.m.
