Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28-30
Throughout his life, Jesus regularly spent time apart from his ministry and his people to seek God’s presence in solitude and quiet, renewing him for his work. Throughout scripture we are reminded to dwell in God to receive guidance, wisdom, restoration, strength, rest, and clarity. An important part of this holy dwelling is coming away from time to time for retreat.
There are many reasons you might feel called to a spiritual retreat, and Saint Mark’s has set aside dedicated space for people seeking to spend some time away in prayer and reflection.
The Cathedral Retreat occupies the top floor of Leffler House, found on our north Capitol Hill campus that has been steeped in over a century of faithful prayers. Time at the Cathedral Retreat can include:
- Walking the outdoor Chartres-pattern labyrinth just steps from the retreat
- Spending prayerful time in the cathedral nave or one of its several chapels or on the cathedral close and greenbelt arboretum
- Worshipping on Sundays or through the Daily Office
- Attending formational or musical offerings that take place each week
- Moving your body gently at Cathedral Yoga
- Being renewed by much-needed sleep
- Meeting with a spiritual director (one session is included in your stay)
- Taking advantage of a small library of book and prayer items
Further information about the Cathedral Retreat is available here. The Center for Spirituality and Action (CSA) Director can answer any question you have and can assist you in designing a retreat that is right for you, if needed. We invite you to slow down and attend to the Holy One who calls you ever more fully into relationship.
