Radix Opening Plenary: Prophetic Voices in Scripture

with No Comments

OPENING PLENARY: SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2026, 7 P.M., via Zoom, no registration required

While the deadline for registering to participate in a Radix 16 small group has passed, all are warmly invited to join the Radix Planning Team for a plenary conversation on Sunday, April 19 from 7-8 pm on Zoom only as we discuss the theme, Prophetic Voices in Scripture, and its relevance for us now.

In the introduction to his 2025 book, The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage, Franciscan priest Richard Rohr describes the biblical prophets this way: “Besides being truth tellers, they were radical change agents, messengers of divine revelation, teachers of a moral alternative, and deconstructors of every prevailing order. Both Isaiah 21 and Ezekiel 3 describe a prophet as a ‘sentry’ or a ‘watcher,’ whose job is to hold Israel maddeningly honest, and to stop them from relying on arms, money, lies, and power to keep themselves safe and in control.”

The role of the prophet then and now is not to engage a political side but to hold society accountable to those who are most vulnerable, to lament how we have failed God and each other, and to point to a better way forward.

The prophet Micah speaking to the people of Israel in a time of false prophets, corrupt leaders, and a misled people reminds us that we already know what God wants most.

“He has told you, human one, what is good and what the Lord requires from you: to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (CEB)

We welcome your engagement with us on this timely topic!

OPENING PLENARY: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2025, 7 P.M., via Zoom, no registration required

SMALL GROUPS MEET: ONCE A WEEK FOR SIX WEEKS, STARTING THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 6, in person OR online via Zoom; registration required

Since January 2020, The Radix Project has invited Saint Mark’s community members into small groups to share their stories, reflect on Holy Scripture and sacred art, and pray for one another with intention. Offered 14 times in the past five years, this beloved program continues to nurture deep connection and spiritual growth.

This fall, Radix 15 takes up the theme “Stories of Recognition in Scripture.”

The theme could not be more timely or essential: we are called to recognize in everyone we meet both our common humanity and the spark of divinity within—a recognition that grounds our shared identity as beloved children of God. Within the Radix small group format, participants practice active listening and respectful communication as they form and deepen relationships with one another.
