The 20s/30s group is a vibrant community that gathers regularly to connect, share our spiritual journeys and build community. They consider issues of faith, justice, ethics, and meaning—as they enjoy each other’s company and share a meal or social time together.
40s/50s Group
This ministry group offers opportunities to gather and offer space where people in this stage of life can experience community, nurture relationships, and walk alongside one another in their journeys of faith and life.
A.A. and Al-Anon
Weekly 12-step meetings at the cathedral occur Monday afternoon (Al-Anon) and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings (A.A.).
A/V Ministry
The Audio Visual Ministry supports and helps further the reach of other important ministries at Saint Mark's, including Liturgies, Music, Wisdom School, and others. A dedicated team oversees and operates cameras, computers and sound equipment.
Acolytes
Acolytes are ministers who assist with various liturgical processions by carrying the cross, torches, banners, incense, or other items. This ministry is open to everyone of all ages.
Affordable Housing Development Project
Saint Mark’s is in preconstruction planning to redevelop the Saint Nicholas property for affordable housing, welcoming those previously excluded from the immediate neighborhood due to systemic housing inequities and discriminatory practices.
All Saints Guild
The All Saints’ Guild provides hospitality and support for those participating in and attending funerals at Saint Mark’s.
Altar Guild
Altar guild members help prepare the community’s Eucharistic meal by setting up bread, wine, vessels, linens, and the altar table; assisting the presiding team during the service; and caring for the vessels and linens afterwards.
Bible Study
Tuesday Bible Study provides a weekly conversation around the lectionary readings appointed for the upcoming Sunday, helping participants to find more meaning in the scripture.
Bread Baker Guild
The Bread Bakers provide eucharistic bread for the Sunday morning services as well as special feast days and memorials that take place at Saint Mark’s.
Cathedral Commons
On Wednesday evenings, Saint Mark's offers a variety of formation offerings called Cathedral Commons. This is a space in which the cathedral community can come together to share, learn, and grow.
Cathedral Yoga
In the sacred space of the cathedral nave, Cathedral Yoga offers an accessible and contemplative practice. Our instructors guide each class in ways that welcome both newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.
Chalice Bearers
Chalice bearers are trained and licensed ministers who offer the hospitality of God's Table as they serve the wine during services of Holy Communion.
Children & Family Ministry Committee
The Children and Family Ministries Committee seeks to support and engage our youngest congregants and their adults in the post-pandemic church.
Children’s Chapel
Children's Chapel is offered each Sunday at the 9 a.m. service. Children in preschool through second grade join in the Gospel procession before heading Thomsen Chapel for singing and prayer.
Choir School
The Choristers of the Saint Mark's Choir School (K-12) aspire to learn, to lead, and to inspire through their work as liturgical ministers. The curriculum emphasizes well-rounded musicianship and lifelong growth in music and faith, music theory with vocal and ear training, and ministry through liturgical leadership.
Compline Hospitality Ministers
Compline Hospitality Ministers are present during the Sunday evening Compline services to greet people, answer questions, and help ensure all attending Compline feel welcomed.
Contemplative Prayer
The Contemplative Prayer group gathers in the Saint Mark’s Cathedral nave each week. Meetings begin with a time of silent meditation, followed by a discussion of contemplative experience and practices, including Centering Prayer.
Contours of the Christian Life
This series, a natural follow-up to the Inquirers' Class, focuses on deepening our faith, our practices, and our relationships as Episcopalians.
Counters
The Counters meet weekly to verify the gifts from the offering plate and other donations to the cathedral. The group shares fellowship while providing an important service to the cathedral's functioning.
Creation Care Ministry
The Creation Care Ministry at Saint Mark's Cathedral strives to faithfully address the climate crisis through education, advocacy, and action. With a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions on the cathedral campus by 2030, this ministry also lifts up the deep connections between climate change and social justice.
Daily Office
Each weekday, members gather on Zoom to pray Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer from the Daily Office found in the Book of Common Prayer. All are welcome, whether you’re still in your pajamas, joining from your workplace, or listening on the move.
Donna Jean’s Place
Donna Jean’s Place is a women’s shelter housed on Saint Mark’s campus in partnership with Operation Nightwatch. Women in the shelter receive a hot meal and assistance from a case manager. Saint Mark's members are welcome to volunteer in a variety of ways to support this ministry.
Education for Ministry
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a multi-year program designed to help participants go deeper in their faith in an intentional, community-based way. EfM is the Episcopal Church's most in-depth adult Christian education course.
Episcopal Relief & Development
Episcopal Relief & Development is the Episcopal Church's organization that responds to human suffering around the world. They provide emergency assistance after disasters, rebuild communities, and relieve poverty.
Eucharistic Visitors
Eucharistic visitors are licensed ministers entrusted to bring the sacrament of Holy Communion to members of the community who are sick or otherwise unable to attend services in person.
Evensong Ushers
Evensong Ushers fill a similar role to Sunday morning ushers in extending hospitality as the monthly service of Choral Evensong attracts many guests and first-time visitors.
Facilities Committee
The Facilities Committee works with cathedral staff on matters of repair, restoration, and preservation of the cathedral, Cathedral House, the St. Nicholas Building, Leffler House, the Carriage House, the Deanery, and the cathedral grounds.
Faith Action Network
Faith Action Network is a statewide, multi-faith partnership striving for just, compassionate, and sustainable communities through courageous advocacy and public action.
Finance Committee
The purpose of the Finance Committee is to provide support, advice, and guidance that assists the Vestry in maintaining effective administration of the accounting and financial operations of the Cathedral.
Flower Ministry
Members of the Flower Ministry create the nave and chapel arrangements, and in doing so, give back a gift of beauty to the One who created us.
Gardening Ministry
The garden volunteers meet to work one Saturday a month, from February through November. They plant, weed, compost, and make our campus beautiful. Some months, ministry leaders organize a midweek work party.
Godly Play
Offered a few times a month, this Montessori-based method recognizes that children are already in relationship with God. It invites them to wonder deeply about the core stories of scripture and imaginatively explore our liturgical traditions.
Greenbelt Ministry
Our Greenbelt Ministry aspires to encourage our congregation to become more deeply acquainted and involved with the Saint Mark's Greenbelt. Greenbelt stewards lead spring and fall work parties with members from our congregation and the community through the Green Seattle Partnership.
Greeters
Saint Mark’s Greeters welcome all who attend the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services—newcomers and members alike. These volunteers extend hospitality by greeting people as they enter, offering a service leaflet, and answering any questions that arise.
Habitat for Humanity Team
Saint Mark's Habitat crew builds Tiny Houses in partnership with the Low Income Housing Institute, assists with projects on the cathedral grounds, and volunteers at the Habitat Interfaith Build.
Hunger Offering
The Hunger Offering Ministry supports six food banks and food support organizations in the Seattle area. Contributions are collected on the second Sunday of every month.
Indigenous Justice
As part of of the cathedral's commitment to restorative justice and systemic change, the community of Saint Mark's offers education on issues of Indigenous justice, invites special guests, and supports the Duwamish Tribe through their Real Rent program.
Intergenerational Council
The Intergenerational Council consists of Saint Mark's community members ranging from youth to elders who gather to examine the cathedral's activities and policies from a range of generational perspectives, and to envision ways of being Church in today's world.
Labyrinth Ministry
The Labyrinth Ministry supports opportunities to experience the peace, the quiet, and the balance that the labyrinth path can bring. The outdoor labyrinth is available 24 hours a day and a smaller labyrinth is available in Compline Corner.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim God's word at our various liturgies by reading lessons from scripture, and they lead the assembly's prayers and intercessions at Sunday morning and other services.
Lowell School Volunteers
Saint Mark's supports our neighborhood public elementary school—which serves a diverse population of students and families—in a number of ways, including supporting special events, providing grocery cards for at-risk families, and running a holiday clothing and toy drive.
Meal Sharing Ministry
The Meal Sharing Ministry is committed to providing nutritious meals and warm hospitality to our fellow neighbors in Seattle who are homeless/hungry. We prepare and serve meals regularly for First Covenant Church Breakfast and St. Martin de Porres Men's Shelter.
Medical Equipment Resource Center
The Medical Equipment Resource Center has items such as wheelchairs, walkers (two- and four-wheeled), crutches, canes, etc., available for use at no cost.
Migrant Justice
Saint Mark's supports and connects parishioners with a variety of local migrant justice organizations. We also partner with WAISN (Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network) and the Archdiocese of Seattle on accompanying community members to immigration-related appointments.
Ministry of Worsted Wool
The Ministry of Worsted Wool is a ministry of faith enrichment as your knitting and crocheting talents contribute to our parish and the wider community. Major emphasis is on prayer shawls and caps.
Mission to Seafarers
The Seattle Seafarers Center (Mission to Seafarers) is a nonprofit organization and an ecumenical partnership with a mission to welcome and care for international seafarers in Puget Sound. The Center offers that care primarily through chaplaincy, advocacy, transportation, and ditty bags.
Newcomers Ministry
The Newcomers Ministry offers hospitality to all who come to Saint Mark's on their spiritual journey. We practice welcoming and inclusion by responding to all newcomer and visitor forms and hosting a monthly newcomer gathering on the first Sunday of each month following the 11 a.m. service.
Oblation Bearers
During Sunday morning Eucharists, oblation bearers assist the ushers by bringing forward the gifts of bread and wine that we offer to God at the Offertory.
Office Volunteers
Office volunteers spend a few hours each week at the reception desk of the cathedral offices. They are often the first to welcome visitors to the cathedral.
Operation Nightwatch
Operation Nightwatch provides meals 365 nights a year, shelter, supportive housing, medical care, and street ministry to individuals living unhoused in Seattle.
Pastoral Care Team
The cathedral clergy are available to parishioners in need of pastoral care for both urgent needs, such as a hospitalization, and non-urgent concerns.
Peter R. Hallock Institute
The Peter R. Hallock Institute is a ministry of the Diocese of Olympia that oversees an archive of the music, papers, and ephemera of Peter R. Hallock and manages the assets of the Institute.
Prayer Chain
The Saint Mark's prayer chain holds the community and its concerns in consistent prayer. When anyone requests prayer, their needs are communicated to over one hundred members who pray each in their own way for healing, comfort, or whatever is needed.
Queer in Christ
QuiC seeks to connect queer people, allies, and families at Saint Mark's, increase visibility of queer people in all areas of ministry, and honor the unity and diversity of the Body of Christ.
Quilt Ministry
Saint Mark's Quilt Ministry grew out of a project to make 90 quilts for supportive housing. We make quilts for parishioners in times of illness or end-of-life, blessing quilts, and small blankets for newborns.
Restorative Justice Council
The work of the Restorative Justice Council arises from prayerful reflection on Saint Mark's Statement of Lament and Commitment to Action. The Council supports the Cathedral’s array of justice ministries and seeks to nurture a culture in the Parish where all are encouraged and equipped to live out the call to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God.
Sacred Ground
Sacred Ground is a film-and-readings based dialogue series on race, grounded in the Episcopal faith. While on hiatus in the 2026-2027 program year, Sacred Ground will support and offer other opportunities to engage anti-racism.
Saint Mark’s Music Series
Saint Mark's presents two music series each year, a main concert series of six to seven concerts exploring sacred music, and Organ by Night, featuring a short performance on the Flentrop organ.
Saint Mark’s Singers
This is a group of 20-30 dedicated singers who provide music for the 9 a.m. service on Sundays during the program year, on Christmas Day, and certain other holy days.
Second Sunday Book Group
Saint Mark's Book Group meets every other month to share our enthusiasm for reading. We read both fiction and non-fiction books that we hope will expand our worldview, our knowledge of our own history and culture and, perhaps, will even make us wiser about ourselves.
Senior Living Center Eucharists
Saint Mark's priests partner with clergy from other Episcopal churches to offer monthly Eucharists at Skyline, Horizon House, and Mirabella. This ministry nurtures bonds of affection and community with members who find it difficult to attend church on Sunday morning.
Stewardship Ministry
The Stewardship Ministry seeks to foster a countercultural view of giving, with gratitude as the central focus. All we have been given is from God, and we hold it lightly and with consideration of our neighbor. The Stewardship Ministry Committee plans and implements the annual campaign to support mission and ministry.
Sunday Evening Sacristans
Sunday evening sacristans, as trained chalice bearers, support the Contemplative Eucharist service by setting up, hosting, and serving during the liturgy, and cleaning up afterwards.
Sunday Forum
Sunday Forums foster relationships within the Saint Mark's community, provide an opportunity to meet distinguished guests, or draw us into a deeper consideration of an element of the Christian faith and life.
The Cathedral Choir
This choir of 40-50 skilled volunteers sings most Sunday mornings at the 11 a.m. service, September through May or early June, in addition to a wide range of festival services, and rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings.
The Cathedral Foundation
The Cathedral Foundation raises and manages capital and endowment funds to preserve and enhance the buildings and grounds of Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral.
The Center for Spirituality & Action
CSA assists those who seek to draw nearer to God and deepen their spiritual lives through a 9-month program of intentional community, learning, shared support, contemplative practice, and acts of service.
The Compline Choir
The Compline Choir chants the office of compline every Sunday at 9:30 p.m., providing attendees and radio broadcast listeners with an opportunity to pause and reflect at the end of each week.
The Evensong Choir
This ensemble consists of advanced Choristers and members of the Schola of the Choir School, plus 12-20 auditioned adult singers. They offer Choral Evensong in the English Cathedral tradition once a month during the program year.
The Inquirers’ Class
This five-week series offered in fall and winter is facilitated by clergy and canons and explores the basics of the Christian faith through the lens of the Episcopal Church. This is one way to prepare to receive the sacrament of baptism or confirmation or to be received into the Episcopal Church.
The Radix Project
The Radix Project is a six-week small group ministry with a focus on scripture, prayer, and deepening relationships with God and with each other. Some groups meet in person, while others meet only online, so participants do not need to be otherwise connected to Saint Mark’s to participate.
The Wisdom School at Saint Mark’s
The Wisdom School offers a balanced path for spiritual transformation grounded in prayer and practice, drawing on the Christian contemplative tradition while respecting the diversity of experiences born from contemplative practices of other traditions.
The Women’s Compline Choir
An advanced ensemble comprised of soprano and alto voices, the Women’s Compline Choir gathers to chant the office of Compline several times each year.
Third Acters 60+
Third Acters, open to anyone aged 60+, builds community as they enter the “Third Act” of their life cycle. The group typically meets twice a month, once in-person and once online, and supports activities that help build connection, such as going on walks and attending social activism events.
Threshold Fund
The Saint Mark's Cathedral Threshold Fund helps individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity by providing financial assistance with rental deposits and move-in costs.
Thursday Morning Chapel Eucharist
A service of Holy Eucharist is offered on the first, third, and fifth Thursdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. in Thomsen Chapel. Fellowship and a community breakfast follow the liturgy.
Ushers
Ushers extend hospitality by helping people find a seat and answering questions that arise and they support the liturgies by assisting with the collection, communion flow, and other tasks during the service.
Vergers
Vergers are ministers of hospitality who escort the choir and liturgical participants in processions of all kinds, from guiding a lector to the ambo, to leading the entire congregation on Palm Sunday.
Vestry
The Vestry oversees and stewards the cathedral's finances, facilities and grounds. They strive to model faithful leadership to prayerfully respond and connect to the ministries of the cathedral community.
Visual Arts Ministry
The Visual Arts Ministry creates ongoing opportunities for the community to engage with the arts in a variety of ways, including bringing exhibits to the nave, encouraging visits to art exhibits or museums, and offering hands-on art creation.
Wednesday Evening Prayer
A service of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer is offered in person on Wednesdays, September through June, as part of the 'Cathedral Commons' Wednesday evening suite of activities.
Worship & Prayer Committee
The Worship and Prayer Standing Committee of the Vestry meets periodically to discuss liturgy and prayer at the cathedral, as part of a strategy driven by the community's Mutual Ministry Goals.
Writers’ Group
Saint Mark’s Writers’ Group supports each other, shares written work and ideas, and offer salons and workshops for the congregation and our community. This group is open to everyone interested in writing.
Youth Group
Saint Mark's Youth play, worship, learn, serve, and eat together. Guest speakers, service projects, outdoor activities, retreats, classes, liturgical leadership, and intergenerational participation offer many ways to connect with each other and the cathedral community.
