FRIDAY, JUNE 6, doors open 5:30 P.M., in the cathedral nave
UPDATE: Please note that the registration deadline has now passed for the ALL-PARISH BANQUET on Friday, June 6. At this time there are over 400 community members registered for this celebration of this vibrant community! Due to the terrific turn-out, doors will open at 5:30 p.m. You are welcome to arrive any time between 5:30 and 6:45, but be aware that parking will be at a premium—please carpool or use transit if you can.
On Friday, June 6, the entire community of Saint Mark's Cathedral is encouraged to come out for the ALL-PARISH BANQUET. This celebration of our vibrant cathedral will be held in the nave, and will include a catered meal, entertainment, and a few surprises.
The main course for dinner will be our regional delicacy—teriyaki! Seattle-style teriyaki, with char-grilled meat in a sweet sauce, was invented here in 1976, and today is considered one of this city’s signature dishes. A vegetarian version will also be served.
A presentation with reflections on the past, present, and future of Saint Mark’s will begin at 7 p.m. Musical entertainment will include an offering by members of the Women’s Compline Choir joined by the trebles of the Cathedral Choir and the Choir School—a beautiful anthem including the lines "yea, blessed are the Living Stones that compose the building of God..." (Hear a preview here.) Finally a time capsule, compiled and closed at Saint Mark’s in 1994, will be opened at the conclusion of the evening. You won't want to miss it!
The banquet is free, and no donations will be requested, but you must register by Sunday, May 25
UPDATE
A video of the evening's program is now available:
At this evening's service, the Compline Choir celebrates the ministry and contributions of its longest serving member, Ken Peterson, who joined the choir in October 1964, and who is retiring as an active member of the choir.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 6:45–8:15 P.M., in Bloedel Hall or online via Zoom. Optional Community Dinner at 6 p.m.
Have you ever considered walking the medieval pilgrimage route, Camino de Santiago, in Spain? Several Saint Mark's parishioners have and they wish to share their experiences and enthusiasm for the Camino! This Cathedral Commons will cover questions such as: What is a pilgrimage and what is the Camino de Santiago? What are the most popular routes to Santiago? How does one make this journey? How are pilgrims changed by their experience and how do they serve future peregrinos?
We may also have a brief presentation from the Friends of the Anglican Pilgrim Centre in Santiago promoting the beautiful guesthouse, Casa Anglicana del Peregrinos, and the historic Church of San Felix de Solovio ("San Fiz") where Anglican liturgies are celebrated in English. Please join Canon Weyls and other Saint Mark's community members for this interesting evening of information and faith sharing.

Join bestselling writer, poet, and educator Ellen Bass for an evening of poetic exploration of themes of healing, hope, life and intimacy as part of the Wisdom School at Saint Mark’s Cathedral. With a disarmingly deft touch and piercingly intimate voice, this sage offers poetic balm and a buoying lightness amidst the vagaries of life, connecting the humble to the luminous.
She will share selected poems and thoughts as manna for the journey with good humor and much grace before engaging those present for Q&A and book signing.
UPDATE: This event was recorded, and a link to the video was sent to those who paid to attend. Please contact info@saintmarks.org to learn more.
About Ellen Bass
Poet and educator Ellen Bass is a Chancellor Emerita of the Academy of American Poets. Her most recent book of poetry, Indigo, was published by Copper Canyon Press in 2020. Previous books include Like a Beggar, The Human Line, and Mules of Love. Bass was co-editor with Florence Howe of the first major anthology of women’s poetry, No More Masks!, and has also written works of nonfiction, including, with Laura Davis, The Courage to Heal: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, which has sold over a million copies and has been translated into twelve languages.
Among her awards are Fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, four Pushcart Prizes and the Lambda Literary Award. She teaches in the MFA program at Pacific University and lives in Santa Cruz, California.
The Home Gatherings for the Living Stones II—Building a Sound Future Capital Campaign have now concluded, and over 250 people participated in one of the 24 separate events—held in homes and other venues across the greater Seattle area—to connect, learn about the campaign, and share their thoughts.
One of the highlights of the gatherings was the presentation of the campaign video, created by parishioner and filmmaker David Wild. If you’ve not seen this informative video, please check it out above or at this link. Many folks at the Gatherings had questions about the proposed Renaissance-style organ which has been offered as a gift from organ builder Paul Fritts, to be installed adjacent to the mighty Flentrop in Compline Corner. To address these questions, David Wild also collaborated with Canon Michael Kleinschmidt on another video titled What Will It Sound Like? Check out that video here!
Looking Ahead:
On Saturday, May 10, drop in to the cathedral any time between 1 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. for a Day of Prayer and Spiritual Practices, featuring invitations to a variety of collective and individual ways to pray, with opportunities for all ages—including body prayers, praying with beads, chanting the psalms, centering prayer, and more. This is a chance to pray for the cathedral parish and the intentions of this community, and to grow in faith through practices that may be new to you. A special highlight will be an intimate service of Evensong led by members of the Schola (youth choir), and the day will conclude with Compline led by members of the Compline Choir at 9 p.m.
The following weekend, any Saint Mark’s members who would like to attend the Advance Commitments Gathering on Saturday, May 17, at 4 p.m. in Bloedel Hall, are cordially invited to do so. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and a presentation, and at the conclusion of the evening those present will have the opportunity to be among the first to submit their three-year financial commitment to the campaign. Register to attend this reception by emailing or calling Erik Donner at: edonner@saintmarks.org or 206.323.0300 ext. 217).
On Sunday morning, May 18, at 10:10 a.m., parishioners of all ages are invited to Bloedel Hall, where Canon Emily Griffin will lead a Sunday forum telling the Godly Play Story of The Church, and in response, children are invited to create and build with artist Sandy Nelson. This is an intergenerational opportunity to engage the themes of the Living Stones II Capital Campaign, and the children’s art will be displayed at the All-Parish Banquet.
On Friday, June 6, the entire community is encouraged to come out for the ALL-PARISH BANQUET. This celebration of our vibrant cathedral will be held in the nave, and will include a catered meal, entertainment, and a few surprises!
Finally, on Sunday, June 8, there will be the Ingathering of Financial Commitments, when all the commitments to the campaign will be presented at the altar and blessed. The generosity of the community will be celebrated on this Feast of Pentecost. (This will officially draw to a close public aspects of the “parish phase,” although the Living Stones II Capital Campaign will continue in the Diocese of Olympia, the broader Seattle community, and beyond, through 2028). We are grateful for your participation!
