SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 10:10 A.M., in Bloedel Hall
On Sunday, October 12, the Saint Mark’s Visual Arts Ministry will open an exhibit in Compline Corner of seven large oil paintings depicting the life of St Francis of Assisi by Kathleen Frugé-Brown. (The artist is the sister of former cathedral staff member Chris Brown, whose funeral will be November 9.)
These seven scenes were conceived in response to the question of what it would be like to be Francis—we see the scenes as if through Francis’s eyes. They are her homage, not only to Francis, but to Giotto and Cimabue, whose frescoes inspired her to tackle the subject.
An opening reception and presentation will be held on October 12 at 10:10 a.m. in Bloedel Hall, where the artist will narrate a slide show of her art and author Laurie Dunlap will read from her book, And I, Francis: The Life of Francis of Assisi in Word and Image, which prominently features Frugé-Brown’s images. Refreshments will be provided along with the usual coffee and tea.
