Creation Care Ministry

The Creation Care Ministry at Saint Mark's Cathedral strives to faithfully address the climate crisis through education, advocacy, and action. With a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions on the cathedral campus by 2030, this ministry also lifts up the deep connections between climate change and social justice.

In 2023, Saint Mark's leadership adopted the goal for the entire campus and community to have a net zero carbon footprint by 2030. Saint Mark's has taken steps to reduce carbon use while addressing deferred maintenance, such as replacing windows and appliances. As part of our Living Stones II capital campaign, we are raising money to replace outdated gas-burning boilers with an energy-efficient HVAC system in the Cathedral House and the nave.

Saint Mark's parishioners can also participate in reducing their own carbon emissions. Use a carbon tracker, such as this one by the Episcopal Church, and make a donation to Saint Mark's Carbon Offset Fund. These funds are split between Carbon Offsets to Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) and the Diocese of Olympia's Carbon Offset Cooperative Missions, which partners with the Diocese of Southern Philippines.
