Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong for the Fifth Sunday in Lent

SUNDAY, APRIL 3, 2022, 4:30 P.M.

All are invited to join hearts, hands, and voices in Eventide prayer and praise to God in this service of Choral Evensong on the Fifth Sunday in Lent. The Evensong Choir will sing a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis composed in 1945 by Herbert Howells for the choir of King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England; and the much-loved anthem The Lord is my light, composed in 1980 by Peter Hallock, with the sound of the mighty Flentrop and the space of Saint Mark’s specifically in mind. (Hallock himself particularly liked this anthem; in an interview he called it “first rate—short and super tight.”) The Evensong Choir is comprised of advanced choristers with unchanged voices, and skilled teen and adult singers. This August, they will serve as choir-in-residence for one week each at Chichester and Bristol Cathedrals, England.
