Youth Group

Saint Mark’s offers fellowship, Bible study, service projects, and confirmation training to young people in our community throughout the year.

Want to get involved? Contact Interim Youth Director Rebekah Gilmoreyouth@saintmarks.org

Youth Confirmation

Teenagers, ages 13–18, who desire to dig deeper into the church and their own beliefs are invited into the year-long process of preparation for youth confirmation. You don't need to be sure that you want to be confirmed to take this class. Asking those questions is the work we do together.

Click here to sign up for the confirmation class.

20s/30s Group

Young adults at Saint Mark’s gather regularly to connect, share their spiritual journeys and build community. We consider issues of faith, justice, ethics, and meaning—as we enjoy each other’s company and share a meal or social time together. Many of our members are new to the Episcopal church, so it is a comfortable and light-hearted way to explore what we believe, how we worship, and how we create joyful and resilient lives.

For more information, check out the most recent 20s/30s newsletter here, and sign up for future issues and special updates here (select the "Young Adults" check box in the form). Contact Luke Abdow with any questions at labdow@saintmarks.org

40s/50s Group

Have you “aged out” of the 20s/30s group, or are you 40+ and desire fellowship and friendship centered around opportunities for fellowship and shared prayer? A new ministry for folks in their 40s and 50s launched on Sunday, January 29. Future events will be announced on this page. Questions? Contact Sacristan Michael Seewer: mseewer@saintmarks.org

In the 10 a.m. hour (between the 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday services), on the first and third Sunday of each month, kids aged 3 and up are invited to the classroom on the second floor of the St Nicholas Building for storytelling, wondering, and play, using the Montessori-based Godly Play curriculum. Children's Chapel

SUDAYS MORNING DURING THE 9 A.M. SERVICE

Children's Chapel returns in its familiar form during the 9 a.m. service in Fall 2022. All children will be invited to join the Gospel procession and cathedral around the Deacon as the Gospel is proclaimed. Then children pre-school through 2nd grade will process to Thomsen Chapel for the Gospel story in a developmentally appropriate telling, singing, and prayer. Parents are welcome to join their children. They return to their families in the nave at the Peace. Adults are needed to volunteer to assist with Children's Chapel on a rotating basis (safeguarding training certification required). If you are interested in participating in this way, or if you have any questions, please contact Canon Wendy Barrie: wbarrie@saintmarks.org

The Home Altars of Saint Mark’s
with No Comments

Earlier this week, the people of Saint Mark’s were invited to create home altars to serve as a focal point for their Holy Week observances. Visit this post for details. Below are some of the photographs that members of the community have sent in to the cathedral or shared in the Facebook Group. Click to enlarge!

A Special Video for Choir Members
with 2 Comments

The music program at Saint Mark’s Seattle, somewhat famously, involves seven different choirs (Saint Mark’s Singers, Cathedral Choir, Evensong Choir, Compline Choir, Junior Choristers, Senior Choristers, and Schola). During this time when choirs are neither singing for liturgies nor meeting weekly to rehearse, choir members are feeling separation and absence acutely. Canon Kleinschmidt and Choir School Director Rebekah Gilmore made the following video to recreate the warm-ups which begin all choir rehearsals, when singers prepare our voices and our bodies … Read More

Let’s gather virtually and have fun staying connected! This Wednesday, March 25, on our usual Cathedral Commons night, visit the Saint Mark’s Seattle Community Life during the Closure group and post a photo of your dinner table or what you’re eating. Some members of the group tried this last Wednesday, and it was so lovely to see everyone! (A few examples are pictured at below.) Sonjia Gavin: Blessing and Curse
with 1 Comment

Yin and Yang. Sinner and Saint. Blessing and Curse. As they say, there are always to sides to a coin. In this time of limbo, I find myself thinking about this daily. What is the take-away from all of this? What are we supposed to be learning? How are we going to make it through? Will this ever this end? All around us, we are experiencing a new normal. Students are not in school, employees are being laid off (including … Read More

Reflections on Signs of Grace…
with 1 Comment

After hearing Dean Thomason’s sermon on March 15, 2020, parishioners were invited to reflect on where they had been experiencing sacramental grace in their daily lives during this challenging time.    I snapped a photo (attached) on my walk out of PCC this evening after being greeted by a brass band playing music together in the park. All of the musicians were standing at least 6 feet apart (practicing social distancing) while they played joyful music. Lifted my spirits immediately … Read More

Table Grace for Your Wednesday Night Supper
with No Comments

Every Wednesday night the community of Saint Mark’s has been invited to join together for a meal in Bloedel Hall. That meal always begins with the table grace sung by the choristers of the Choir School and all the parishioners who are attending. During this time of isolation, if you would like to begin your Wednesday night meal in the same way, Canon Keinschmidt offers this video > Be present at our table Lord; Be here and everywhere adored. These … Read More

Kelly Moody: “Everything Has Changed”
with No Comments

Associate for Spiritual Formation Kelly Moody recently sent the following letter to the participants in Children and Family Ministries at Saint Mark’s. Her reflection is relevant, however, not just to parents of young children, but to all of us, and so we are sharing it here. “Everything has changed.” We say that in Godly Play at the beginning of a new liturgical year, and it seems appropriate in the wake of the news all gatherings over 50 people are prohibited, … Read More
